    • Born as Jacob Welcomer, changed his name to Fink in 1870's to fight inSpanish American War? Indian War? Tombstone has a Veteran of Sp/Am. Warplaque on it, but he would have been almost 40, and the story goes thathe changed his name because he was too young to enlist. Did he fight inboth wars? Fink was his mother's maiden name. His widow asked Ray Fink tochange his name back to Welcomer, which he did in 1969?

      Joseph Whitcome of the right age in Ogle county Illinois in the 1880census very close to a Jacob Fink who is working on a farm. Says thatJacob is 24 but he would only be 18 at the time.

      Jacob Welcomer Fink

      Jacob W. Fink died at his home in Penn Township on Monday morning ofcomplications. He was in his sixty-fifth year. He is survived by hiswidow, Mary Buch Fink and the following children: Irvin, Phares, Raymond,Christ, Mrs. Rolandis Witman, Mrs. Clarence Graham, Mrs. Elmer Leese, andtwo children, Norman, Claude, at home. Also by one sister, Mary OliverMay, of York; two brothers, Henry and George Welcomer, both of York and21 grandchildren. He was a member of the United Brethren Church. Thefuneral services were held this (Thurs.) afternoon at 2 o'clock at thehome. Interment in Fairview Cemetery.
